Applicant Ordered To Sweep Court Premises For Stealing Wrappers

A Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, FCT on Wednesday, ordered a 27-year-old woman, Joy Alake, to sweep the court premises for two weeks for stealing nine pieces of wrappers and four skirts worth N68,000
The convict, who resides at Karu Village, Abuja, pleaded guilty to the two counts of criminal trespass and theft and pleaded for leniency.
The judge, Sani Mohammed, who did not give the convict an option to pay any fine, warned her to desist from committing crimes.
Mohammed also ordered the police to release the recovered wrappers to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Vincent Osuji told the court that the complainant, Rosemary Akande, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Oct. 30.
He said that the complainant alleged that the convict entered her shop in Karu and stole nine pieces of wrappers and four skirts, valued at the sum of N68,000.
During police investigation, he said, the convict confessed to committing the crime.
The offence, he said, is punishable under the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

South Africa Ready To Launch Electronic Visa System To Attract More Tourists

South Africa Ready To Launch Electronic Visa System To Attract More Tourists

South Africa will start the piloting process for an online e-visa system later this month in a fresh bid to attract more tourists, according to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
This new electronic self-service solution system will speedily facilitate the movement of low-risk travelers, according to the department. The system will make it easier for tourists to enter the country, thanks to the online capture of visa applications and biometric information, the department said.
The pilot will be conducted with Kenya first at the OR Tambo and Lanseria airports in Johannesburg. At the end of November, the project will be evaluated to determine what other countries the e-visa system will be expanded to, according to the DHA.
It’s estimated that the entire application process would take around 20 minutes, provided the applicant has all of the necessary supporting documents ready for submission.
The announcement came after Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi on Friday signed a waiver which will allow foreign children to enter the country without additional supporting documents such as birth certificates and consent letters.

Promise Not To Arrest Nnamdi Kanu If He Comes Home – Ex-Governot, Ezeife Tells FG

A former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has appealed to the Federal Government to allow Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) come to Nigeria for his late mother’s funeral.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Ezeife said the government should also make a promise not to harass or arrest Kanu throughout his stay in the country until he leaves.
Ezeife who said the death of a mother is very painful said he is happy that a lot of people have been calling on the government to allow Kanu come home.

7 Days In Hell: How A Sokoto Billionaire Was Held Inside Forest By Kidnappers Before Paying N100m Ransom

In the few hours after Alhaji Tukur Sabaru was kidnapped, it occurred to him that his abductors were familiar faces.
He didn’t have to stretch his imagination far to recall that he had encountered some of the faces recently.
Indeed they had all crossed his path variously posing as his customers, beggars and cobbler. Taken deep into the forest in Zamfara State, the Sokoto-based businessman, known locally as a cheerful philanthropist, was subsequently held hostage for seven days before his family secured his freedom with N100 million ransom.
Sabaru, who lived to tell his story, had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, after his release.
Operatives of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) were subsequently ordered to investigate and bring the kidnappers to book, an order that was executed to the letter.
Suspected abductors, identified as Rufai Muhammed, Isah Abdullahi, Abdulrashid Labaran, Abba Zayyanu, Zubairu Muazu and Rabiu Ibrahim were arrested in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kastina and Kano states.
The sum of N10million and the victim’s car, a Mercedes Benz C180, sold in Kano, were recovered.
The Sabaru kidnap is one of the cases that expose the Modus Operandi of organised kidnap gangs now rampaging across northern Nigeria.
The suspects confessed to the police that it took them five days of constant surveillance before they picked up their victim in front of his house on September 23, 2019.
Their confessions gave keen insights into the role played by prisons in facilitating fraternization among criminals which indirectly fuel the plague of kidnapping currently ravaging the country. In the Sabaru affair, the incubation of the criminal idea, the organisation and execution of the abduction, and ransom negotiation were all remotely controlled by a kingpin serving time inside Katsina Prison.

Man rapes 38years old victim

A 27-year-old man, Adam Kunle, who is currently being investigated by the Ogun State Police Command for raping a 38-year-old woman, said on Thursday, that he raped the victim because she refused to date him at Makogi area of #Ibafo, #OgunState.
Kunle, who confessed to the crime, said: “I have been making advances to the victim for quite some time. Unfortunately, she has been rejecting my offer. .
I raped my 38-yr-old victim.
So on that day, when the opportunity came, I took advantage of the lady since she was the only person at home, so I had my way with her.
While she was sleeping in her room at about 12:30 in the afternoon, I sneaked into her room and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her against her wish because we live in the same vicinity.” .
It was gathered that after the victim reported the incident at Ibafo Police Station, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Ibafo Police Station, SP Akindele Andrew, quickly led detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
